Here’s a worship song I wrote that addresses the theme of worship & justice. I wrote the verses from the earlier part of Micah chapter 6 and then the chorus is the familiar passage from Micah 6:8.
Micah 6:6
With what shall I come before the LORD and bow down before the exalted God?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?
7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of olive oil?
Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Lyrics
What could I offer, what could I do?
What kind of worship, pleases you?
A thousand songs or a hundred Prayers?
There’s more to be offered than noise in the airYou’ve showed me, Your desire, this is what You require
To Act Justly
To Love Mercy
To Walk Humbly
With my God
Let my life be
For Your glory
Let the world see
Your great loveWhat could we offer, what could we do
What kind of worship, pleases You
A thousand songs or a hundred prayers
There’s more to be offered than hands in the airYou have shown us, Your desire, this is what You require
To Act Justly
To Love Mercy
To Walk Humbly
With our God
Let my life be
For Your glory
Let the world see
Your great love
*For those that care, it’s recored in Ab… or G capo 1.
HI Dan, Love this song. Found it seeking songs on Micah 6:8 to include as songs we sing on our mission trip next month. Small church with 14 of us going. May we have your permission to sing this song on the trip and in the corresponding worship with our church?
Greetings! Our senior pastor asked about doing this song in a couple of weeks. Do you have a lead sheet for those of us who learn quicker visually? Thanks!
Sorry I don’t have a lead sheet.
Thanks Dan – it’s a great song, and a very fitting text now in Lent.
Sounds great Dan, one of my favourite pieces of scripture.
Really diggin this song, Dan! Great work man.
